Funding for the 10 year project in Brazil is confirmed :D. We will use 'Ecological Assessment Initiative' or 'E.A.I.' to conduct landscape- and farm-level research to protect biodiversity in the Mata Atlantica forests of Brazil and the super diverse cocoa production systems. I am proud to be AMAP's first 'Director of Research'. In this role I will be leading all research activities on the new large scale 'Ecological Assessment Initiative' or 'E.A.I'.
Together with Manuel Toledo, I'm going to Ilheus, Brazil to set up two projects to i) determine how cocoa pollination is affected by plantation shade level and ii) determine farmers' perception on ecological intensification.
Peter Frohn and my first deep learning paper on training ResNet architectures more effectively is submitted - after three month of solid work.
I am a global ecologist, data enthusiast, and interdisciplinary scientist working as a ‘Researcher’ in the Agroecology Group at the University of Göttingen, Germany. I am also the ‘Director of Research’ of AMAP, Germany.
I received my PhD from the University of Adelaide, Australia and the National University of Singapore, Singapore (PhD, Environmental Sciences and Statistics) and am a former Postdoc at Stanford University, US and SLU, Sweden.
Together with my students and collaborators, I am working broadly on solutions for sustainable natural resource use. Specifically, my research and teaching is focused on sustainable crop production strategies, land use change impacts on biodiversity and people, stakeholder perception and certification of natural resources use, and deep learning. Besides a career in research, I held senior management positions in international organizations and a technology start-up.
